EMERGENCY DENTISTRY
Dental emergencies need to be taken care of as soon as possible, which is why we stay open later in the evening four days a week. We will try and fit you in as soon as possible.
Emergencies are obviously unpredictable, but when one occurs, it’s best to act fast. An emergency can include the following:
– Tooth infection
– Severe toothache
– Knocked-out tooth
– Broken, chipped or cracked tooth or crown, cap or bridge
– Broken braces
– Badly bitten tongue/lip accompanied by uncontrolled bleeding
– Something stuck between teeth or gums
If you have something stuck between your teeth or gums, it may be tempting to use everything possible to remove it. We know it’s uncomfortable, but it’s best to wait until we can remove it for you in order to prevent further damage or injury. If you experience swelling or discomfort, gently hold an ice pack to the affected area until you can be seen.
Toothaches
If you’re experiencing a toothache/severe pain, call us right away and explain your symptoms so we can fit you into our schedule right away. Do not use heat to alleviate pain as you make your way to our office. An ice pack is much more ideal as it can slow blood flow and reduce pain, swelling, and inflammation.
A Tooth Knocked Out
If your tooth was knocked out due to a sports incident, car accident or other trauma, save it if you can. Rinse it with either water or milk, but don’t wipe it off. If you get to us in good time, we can replant your tooth. If it’s too broken, a root canal may need to be performed and you may need a crown.
Crown Knocked Out
Just like if your tooth is knocked out, save the crown if you can. If you leave it out for a long period of time, your teeth may shift and fill in the gap, in which case your crown will no longer fit. If you’re not able to fit it over your teeth, rinse it with water (don’t wipe it off) and bring it to us.
